Experiences reducing corrugated use through refined box design?

For "standard" stock boxes and cases, it seems like there is a lot of development around max utilization of cubes and things like molded fiber insets and other smart filler designs... the stuff INSIDE the case/outer box.

But... while we all agree around "using less corrugated" and being smart about box design, it seems like in the industrial side of things (ie stocking boxes and cases) that after you get the box fitted, there is only so much corrugated material to be reduced.

Has anyone had successes in smarter case designs to reduce corrugated use? Was it about the case box itself, inner components?
